The Wilshire Shaker Is For Sale And It Could Be Yours! (w/video!)

The Wilshire Shaker Is For Sale And It Could Be Yours! (w/video!)

In the coming weeks, you’ll be seeing some cool stuff from the electronic pen of Steve Magnante here on the pages of BangShift. We were cruising his new site SteveMags.com and came across an item announcing that he has put the famed Wilshire Shaker up for sale. Fear not, as he’s not bailing out of cool car stuff, he just wants to move this car so that he can finish a couple more altered wheelbase builds he has either going on or schemed up in that dome of his. We vividly remember the Wilshire Shaker build stories from Hot Rod back in the late 1990s and into the 2000s. It was cool to see the car come together but even cooler yet to see it actually prowling the streets of (then) LA. It runs 11s at the drags, pulls killer wheelstands and has that great retro “match bash” early funny car look. What’s not to love?

The car certainly helped to spur interest in that altered wheelbase era and generated lots of people to actually build strip-only or street legal versions of AWB cars. It isn’t like they are growing on trees, but the fact is, if you are at a nostalgia drag race or big car show you have good odds on seeing one or more AWB style car that was built in the last 10 years. Hell, some of you probably remember the AWB ford Fairmont that Steve built (and still has!). That one seems to divide people right down the line of awesome or strange. But that’s a debate for another day. Hit the link below to check out the listing for the Wilshire Shaker on SteveMags.com and then watch the video of Da Shaker in action at Lebanon Valley Dragway in New York!

  1. The Outsider

    It’s certainly a well-known car . . . perhaps even historic.

But $65,000? That’s way more than replacement cost. If that price holds, it looks like we’re in another investment bubble.
