From The “What Were You Thinking” Files: A Very Strange Crown Victoria Custom For Sale On Ebay!

Oh boy… I’m not sure what to make of this one!

I was perusing good ol’ eBay recently for cool projects to drool over, and as I’m scrolling through the listings, I see what appears to be a yellow mass of early 3D video game polygons roughly hewn into a vague car-like shape. Was it a tribute to one of the cars in the 1989 arcade game Hard Drivin’, or a car from the alternate dimension where everything is square featured in recent Honda TV spots? Naturally, I had to find out more. In typical BangShift fashion, we will let the photos do the talking.

Ladies and Gentlemen: Here it is. According to the seller, this car is based on a 1993 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, which means it came with an early SOHC 4.6L Modular Ford V8. There’s no mention of any modifications to the powertrain, which means that the Mod V8 has only 210hp to lug this beast around. It’s sporting some American Racing Outlaw-looking wheels on all four corners wrapped with BFG Radial T/A’s. That rounds out the suspension mods.

A rear 1/4 shot gets a good look at the polygon-like side profile of this thing. The top (and, well, everything else) is custom made and mates to the existing Crown Vic windshield. If you look closely, you can see the Crown Vic’s taillights haphazardly mounted under that rear trunk slab.

Now here’s some concrete evidence that this thing was once a former Crown Vic cop car. Aside from the wheels and tires, the interior is home to basically all of the curves in the car’s design language. It retains the column shifter and dashboard, and possibly the P71-specific seats. The seats are reupholstered in marine-grade vinyl, which means that when that custom convertible top inevitably leaks, you’ll be good to go!

Another shot of the rear shows off the car’s continental kit and that weird slab-shaped trunk. See that lady standing next to the car? That’s the builder’s wife. According to the ad, she campaigned this thing in the 2011 One Lap of America event in the “Special Construction” category, and even winning her class! According to the results, there were two cars in the “Special Construction” class, and the other was a 1958 Lister Corvette that broke at some point, resulting in a DNF. This thing was the sole survivor of that class, and won by default. But hey, race car!

See? Race car. The extent of the racing modifications include “extra support bars” and a set of ceramic brake pads. And stickers. Lots of stickers.

I’m all for weird, “Dare to be Different” stuff, but man, this one’s pretty far out there. I’m not sure of the story behind why a perfectly good P71 Police Interceptor Crown Vic was hacked up to make it look like this… maybe the builder had a lot of steel kicking around and got bored? Is it a tribute to the legendary Vette Hack? In any event, this exists, and you can buy it right now on eBay for $5,000 United States dollar bucks. Check out the eBay ad if you dare!

Of course, we want to hear what you think of this slab-sided beast, so let us know in the comments section!
