Best of BangShift 2013: We Find A Obliterated Shelby Cobra Replica On Copart.com

Best of BangShift 2013: We Find A Obliterated Shelby Cobra Replica On Copart.com

Maybe we’re weird or have a slightly macabre view of the world, but every time we see a Shelby Cobra replica rolling down the road, we always think, “Wonder what one of those would be like after a wreck?” Well, our answer is painfully illustrated below with a series of photos we found on the Copart.com website of a Cobra replica that is absolutely mangled. Literally nothing left of the “car” that is identifiable outside of the rear quarter panels, the motor (which is completely free of the chassis) and the wheels/tires. Obviously we have no idea on the back story of this mess but since it is being sold as through Copart’s network of wrecking yards, we’re guessing the insurance company wrote it off. The photo of the bent portion of the steering wheel is kind of creepy due to the fact that it looks about where someone would have been holding it. Yikes.

Interestingly, the listing states that the car is a “1964 Ford Cobra” but it is obviously not a real car as the jagged shards of fiberglass give away the fact that this is not an aluminum body. As we write this the bidding for the car pile that used to be a Cobra replica is at $525. Maybe there are some good pieces in the motor? Hey one wheels looks alright. Ok, we’re stretching.

Thanks for the tip Frank!

Depending on what state you live in might be the cheapest way to get a 1964 Cobra Title. The Pink might be worth more than the Pile.

I have a cobra replica and have been around them for years. I don’t remember ever seeing one quite that destroyed. Sadly, this seems to happen at least once a year.

Gotta love the damage description: ALL OVER
But it’s still sad that the poor guy died in the crash.
It would make a nice piece of art for a rich car enthusiast.

Although kit Cobras are so cliche. I would still love to own one. Now I have reservations as to their structural integrity. Yes I know this was a relatively high speed head on but this thing looks like it crumbled like a potato chip.

On that Superformance site where the car is in the water it looks like that might be a Gainesville Raceway truck. If so how do you get into water with that at a dragstrip that runs 330mph dragsters?

It’s one thing to wipe out yourself but totally another to hurt innocent by standards. Hope they have recovered.

Ive seen pics of real 64-67 Cobras that died on the track or the street. Other than the Fiberglass they dont look that much different.
Ive seen crashes of Factory 5 kits and they seemed to hold up better than the real ones. There was allot of energy dispersed in this crash the speed must of been really high or it was a freak high speed head
    on crash.

I helped fit and paint a couple of these,The ones my friend and I did were The Carol Shelby csx 4000..It was the later models produced by Carol shelby in Arizona as I recall….that’s one handful to drive…short wheelbase…no side and very little rollover protection.

I hate to be a jerkwad but, at 56 years old you oughtta know better. This selfish prick almost took out an entire family because of his small penis. This hits home for me because not long ago some 50-something in a Mustang GT creamed my girlfriend while she was pulling out of my driveway in my subdivision. Speed limit is 25 on my street. Dude hit her doing 80+. If my son was in the back seat, he probably wouldn’t have made it– thank God he was already at day care. I effing hate people that drive like morons because they think their car (or bike) is hot shit, and I think this guy got exactly what was coming to him.
