While evil, randomly accelerating Toyotas are one thing to be skittish of on the roads, we found a hazard that should strike larger amounts of fear into you. That hazard? Meth-head big rig drivers who talk on their cell phones while driving, and then fall out of the cab of their trucks. Just ask some people in Flag City, California, how scary and destructive they can be.
According to a truly amazing story from LodiNews.com, 39-year old Robert Lee Michael Jr. fell out of his big rig while talking on the cell phone while he was allegedly high on meth. We can only imagine the coherence of that conversation.
According to police, the truck was traveling about 35 mph when the truck’s door came open, forcing Michael to grab onto the wheel, which sent the truck into a violent right turn. Michael abandoned ship and the massive big rig carried on, driverless, into a (how perfect is this?) Park and Ride lot full of commuter’s cars.
The truck mangled seven cars in the lot, while all of their, we assume, non meth using owners were working at their offices. Imagine riding in the carpool after a hard day, pulling into the lot, and finding your trusty daily driver smooshed by a semi truck. Catching those reactions on video would have been priceless.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, suspicion of using a controlled substance, and may be cited for not using his seatbelt, and talking on his phone while driving.
Suddenly those pesky pedals don’t seem so bad.
