Two Vastly Different But Totally Awesome Ford Roadsters To Debut At SEMA – Blue Steel and Double Down! Ford Powered Awesomeness

TheresMoreGraphic465x25Hitting the SEMA show hard every year to bring you the newest in hot rodding innovation, the coolest new builds, and all the scoop from inside the industry is tough work, but we’re here for you. Yeah, right. We’re already losing sleep over all the cool stuff we’re going to see, breath on, and get escorted away from at the 2013 SEMA show. Two of the cars we are most pumped up about are actually a pair of Ford roadsters that each pack a different but awesome Ford motor. There’s Doug Dwyer’s “Blue Steel” project that is coming together as you read this and derives power from a REAL Ford SOHC headed mill which will be starring at the Centerforce booth and then there is the Fuller Hot Rods “Double Down” that was commissioned by Jet Hot. Double Down is an all wheel drive, Kaase Boss 429 powered study in power to weight ratio and contact patch. Huge slicks anchor the car to the asphalt and yes, that is a quick change center section protruding through what would normally be the grill on a Ford! Holy smokes these things are greatness.

Let’s take a look-see at Blue Steel first!

With a steel body from the defunct Rod Bods company, a Currie 9-inch rear end, a manual transmission fronted with a Centerforce Clutch, gigantic rear Mickey Thompson meats and a real deal, not new, vintage Ford SOHC engine, this thing is looking like a show stopper. The only things that aren’t NOS or original parts on the motor are the valve covers. The original magnesium covers cannot be plated, so aluminum covers were used for that reason. The exhaust is neat as a pin, the motor has EFI with Holley brains, MSD ignition, there are RacePak instruments inside, and Baer stoppers all around, so this is going to be one mean driver. Look for more detailed photos and information from the show floor! For now, oogle these build photos. Oh, and as we mentioned above, as you are reading this, Doug is hammering on the car to get it done for next week!

Next up! Here’s the incomparable Double Down by Fuller Hot Rods. They have not released any full scale photos of the car yet, but these bits and pieces make us giggle like we’ve been sampling Willie Nelson’s private stock. In terms of Ford roadster builds this thing is in its own universe. As we mentioned above, this is a Jon Kaase built Boss 429 powered, all wheel drive Ford. Nothing about this car is “in the box” so to speak. You don’t call someone and have them send you an AWD setup for a Deuce. Fuller and his guys rocked the 2012 SEMA show with their wild Thundertaker Cadillac Hearse project. This thing should bring the house down again. This project was commissioned by Jet Hot and it is currently on the truck to SEMA. It’ll be in the Jet Hot booth and we’ll be tripping old ladies and throwing elbows to get to it first and bring you more detailed photos. Four slicks, vintage magnesium wheels, Boss 429 valve covers hanging out the side….ooga booga!!!!
