Unhinged: We Need More Airboat Racing Around Here! …right?

Unhinged: We Need More Airboat Racing Around Here! …right?

Oh, Mother Nature…you are a solid pain in my butt this week. Where to begin? My yard has the consistency of chocolate pudding because everything is saturated. I was supposed to be livestreaming the Showdown at the River at Little River Dragway in Texas as I’m typing right now…but Little River Dragway is simply Little River now, with water covering the track. And my backup plan, ChallengerFest 10, is currently on hold thanks to drizzly weather that will progress to full-blown rain later today, thanks to the system that is coming out from Texas. Yep, the same one that flooded out Temple is going to wash Bowling Green, too. Oh, joy.

Water, water everywhere, and not a place to race. Well, if you’ve got four tires and two are slicks, yeah, that’s pretty much what’s going on. But you can race if you want to. And I have the perfect solution: airboats. I saw one headed west as I was driving back east from Memphis yesterday, and with all of the rain falling, it does make me wonder why airboat racing isn’t that popular. It’s somewhere in between standard boat racing and a hydrofoil, with the skills of a helicopter pilot needed to make sure that it goes in the right direction. A small four-cylinder engine is enough, but we’ve seen ones turning the propellor with a small-block Chevrolet. On a flooded raceway, airboats would be perfect! What do you think, readers, would you be down to watch airboats?
