We teased you the other day with a short video of an 1100hp full race Hemi screaming into the night through the exhaust system of the dyno at Ray Barton Racing Engines, now here’s the whole deal. This video is a seven minute synopsis of the day that features our hero, the 500ci former NHRA Pro Stock hemi engine that has been altered to see use in a unique race car that will assault speed records in multiple genres of racing. The engine started the day making 960hp and by the time Scott “Dieselgeek” Clark and other EFI tuning maestros got done tweaking it made more than 1100hp.
This video takes you into the dyno control room, outside of the shop, into the race shop of Ray Barton that is literally packed fore and aft with SS/AH Darts and Barracudas, and directly into the computer screen of tuner Clark as he makes minute changes that saw the engine picking up 20-40hp per pull. Heck, the guys essentially gasket matched the throttle body early in the day to cure a reversion issue and the engine picked up nearly 100hp, lickety split!
Scott is a BangShift forum member and he was joined by other members Doug (LS7GTO) and Tony, who you’ll see at the beginning and middle of this video. Truth be told Tony shot lots of the footage and Scott cut it together. If you like hearing a race Hemi make nearly ten 8,000rpm plus pulls on the pump, this video is nearly pornographic.
