Video: The Public Execution of a Detroit Diesel

This is a strange video, but one that’s morbidly entertaining. It shows a Detroit Diesel of unknown displacement on some sort of test stand in front of the crowd of people. Those people are behind a chain link fence which would provide zero protection in the event of parts flying in their direction. The motor gets fired up and then run right off the rev charts until it quits!

The term “screaming Detroit” brings on new meaning when one of these two-stroke oil burners is run without any sort of governor. To us the most amazing thing about this video is the fact that the crank doesn’t shatter and the rods stay in the block. That being said, it does not end well for the motor.
