Yesterday we showed you a wild video of an Australian Top Doorslammer racer experiencing a big fire and doing an amazing job of getting the car hauled down without hitting anything or making the situation any worse. Today we’re going back down under and will again highlight a pair of Top Doorslammer machines in a bad situation. In the clips below you’ll see Victory Bray, who is the the Aussie equivalent of John Force and Pete Kapiris, another legendary tin top racer. In fact, Kapiris was the first guy in the world to run a five second door slammer pass in competition. So we’re talking about two important guys in Aussie drag racing side by side here.
As you’ll see in the video Kapiris launches off in his neat old Chrysler Saratoga bodied car and Bray is late on the leave. Kapiris gets a big jump and is making good steam down the course when he suffers and explosion at the 330′ cone. We’re not sure if the clutch blew up or what. While all of that is happening, Bray comes out of the hole like his hair is on fire and starts making tracks in the hope to catch Kapiris. Bray sees the explosion and gets off the throttle and on the brakes, but Kapiris is drifting strongly to the left. With nowhere to go, Bray manages to sneak his car through the ever tightening opening between the concrete wall and Kapiris’s wounded car. As a reminder, all of this stuff is still happening at like 150mph, even though both of the cars are shut down.
Watch the outside video first so you can get an appreciation for the job that Bray does here and then watch the in-car footage to see how his split second reactions and decision making turned this into a potentially awful situation into a mere sideswipe! Nice work by big Victor!
