Add Cylinders And Go: Check Out This LS-Based V-12 Engine On The Dyno!

Add Cylinders And Go: Check Out This LS-Based V-12 Engine On The Dyno!

In 1966 the last General Motors-built twelve cylinder engine, the famous 702ci “Twin Six”. Based upon the GMC V6 family of engines, the Twin Six utilized a good amount of parts from the six cylinders, but was it’s own cast block and not two blocks welded together. Pushing 250 horsepower and 585 ft/lbs of torque, the Twin Six was meant for commercial applications and today is a fairly rare find. Then again, any V-12 is a pretty rare deal. Emissions controls and the improvement in power levels have rendered the twelve-cylinder engine a plaything for cars. Sure, the Italians still have them and the Brits have been holding on as well, but the United States is a V8-loving nation, so leave it to Australia, land of the “if plenty is good, more is better”,  to conjure up a twelve-cylinder based on GM’s LS engine architecture. It is certainly interesting, but we wonder if the V-12 takes to turbocharging like it’s V8 source does. We do know that Rod Saboury is supposed to receive the first production block and that the company, V12LS.com, is intending to build as many as are requested. Now, if they could just find a way to fit one into a kit-car Fiero, then we’d be getting somewhere.

Seems like an awful lot of trouble and expense for 717 horsepower that you can easily get out of the stock based V8.

Lol, that’s awesome, I just came here to see what he’d spew. I’m disappointed at the lack of Geordie.
