Apocalypse Driving Lessons: Brutal Banger Racing Crashes From The U.K.

Apocalypse Driving Lessons: Brutal Banger Racing Crashes From The U.K.

As of writing this, it’s official: auto production has come to a halt in the United States. And that includes Tesla, who were ordered to shut it down since they were classified as “non-essential manufacturing”. As if cabin fever from the winter, the irritation of the opening of racing season being delayed for weeks on end, and other interruptions wasn’t enough, now you’re going to have every Corvette dork on the planet happily claiming that since they bought a brand-new C8 before the shutdown occurred, that their car is going to be that much rarer in the long run and, as a result, more valuable. The world hasn’t gone mad, only the people, but it’s still enough to make you want to rip your hair out some days.

Now in all reality, this will pass. The COVID-19 virus will move on, life will slowly return to normal, and we’ll laugh about this years from now. We hope, anyways. But just in case things really do go south, you might want to watch the following video below as you prepare your war wagon for invading raids and defensive measures. This is U.K. banger racing, if you are unfamiliar with it, and the premise is simple: this is demolition derby with about half of the rules. If you’ve ever wondered what the crumple zones looked like on any vehicle, just wait…the racers who drive in these events will find it. And don’t automatically assume that bigger equals better, either…we’ve seen old Volvo wagons kick the absolute stuffing out of 1970s American boats, and we’ve seen big Cadillacs wear Renaults as a hood ornament.

We suspect that once this is all over the only difference in our world will be a celebration courtesy of some racers with pent-up frustrations. But just in case, get your leather jackets ready and start building those bullbars…
