I’m bringing Steve McQueen level heat here and I am combining it with a flipping Chevy wrecker. Not only is this Steve McQueen in a car chase, it is Steve McQueen in a car chase driving a damned Chevrolet tow truck and forcing a bad guy to drive off the side of a parking garage about 20 stories in the air, dive bombing into a Chicago river. The jumping happens after both the wrecker and the bad guy’s Pontiac crash and smash their way to the top floor of the structure. This thing is fantastic from start to finish largely because of the comedic presence of McQueen in the scene. The faces he makes while boosting the wrecker, crashing the wrecker into parked cars and then into the Cadillac populated by a gentlemanly looking guy at the 3:00 mark are great.
The Hunter was McQueen’s last role as a leading man before he passed away in 1980 from cancer. The dude is an eternal icon of coolness and this scene is reinforcement of that. The other reason I love this scene is because I can’t think of another situation where a real car was jumped from this real height into an actual city river. This literally would never happen today. Some kid who plays with nerf swords would make this jump a CGI deal in a windowless room. Fail.

Classic–
My dad always said ” don’t play with your nerf sword too much or you’ll go blind” Dear old dad.
It’s unfortunate that McQueen ended his incredible Hollywood career with such a bad film . . . The Hunter.
Haha i like the pimp at 1.34
McQueen was the man………….some films were just better than others but he was always a great actor.
