BangShift Question Of The Day: What Is Your Ride Of Choice For This Beater Race?

BangShift Question Of The Day: What Is Your Ride Of Choice For This Beater Race?

I have no idea where this is or when this occurs (if it’s even an actual race and not a bunch of guys having a ball in a field somewhere) but this looks like a riot of a time. Where are you going to see a GMC Sierra racing a 1990s Buick Regal, a Crown Vic and a Chrysler LeBaron sedan? Wherever this is, that’s where, and to be honest, I’m amazed that there isn’t more grassroots racing like this to be found. A huge field, a dirt course, and helmets for the drivers in the name of safety. After that…well, you signed the waiver to get in here, didn’t you?

Invariably, the first question that needs to be asked is “What car would you run here”? So here’s exactly what I did: I went to the local Craigslist and looked up $1000 cars to see what would be the best option from the front page, for the cheapest. Result? A 1999 Mercury Sable station wagon for $700. Nobody would miss it if something happened to it (like a Subaru drilling the quarter panel, for instance) and if that sucker flew like the Integra in the picture, that’s YouTube fame, at least five seconds’ worth.

There’s my offering. Dirt pit, few rules, and one big jump to hit. What’s your ride?

  1. Singapore Hot Rod

Any year Chevy Cavalier. I’ve never been able to kill one. I also had a 1990 T-Bird that took a proper beating for a few hundred thousand miles. Those are my picks.

  2. jerry z

A mix of offroad, drifting, and demo derby all in one is my kind of race!

I would use either a Durango, S10 Blazer, or Explorer 4WD since they are cheap and plentiful.
