This video, shot at the currently dormant Gateway International Raceway just outside of St Louis does a great job of depicting the volatility of transmission fluid when it hits red hot exhaust parts! This Mustang, which reportedly sports at least one turbo (and it sure sounds like it does) becomes an easy bake oven shortly after launching off the starting line.
According to a couple commenters on the video, despite the totally hellacious fireball the only repairs necessary to the car were a new transmission line and about $100 worth of paint work to the rear bumper. Things could have been way worse if the incident took place at the top end and the car had a full head of steam.
If you are running an automatic in your high-po street car or drag machine, check the transmission lines! This is excitement you do NOT need!
Another brilliant response by track safety workers…running down the track with an extinguisher.
@Matt
Huh? wtf is the rant about? Doesn’t sound like it’s aimed at bangshift.com (the site you posted at) and isn’t aimed at the video (the blog item you commented on)
My daily dose of carnage has been met.
OK this time its Matt… this idiotic post about rat rods has appeared maybe half a dozen times now!! Same text, same rant….
