Earlier today we dug up an old story that we ran about the Great American Truck Racing series from the 1980s and announced the creation of the ChumpTruck budget big rig racing series for 2014. This was the series that pitted hot rod big rigs against each other on speedways and super speedways across the country. The story caught fire and flew around the gearhead internet universe in record time when it first ran back in 2011. Well, we’ve found some more awesome video from the series that is a must see and is perfectly sums up what people will be seeing with the new ChumpTruck series in 2014, although Chump will be a road racing deal and this is oval racing, the look of the trucks is what the ChumpTruck guys are shooting for. These are standard issue big rigs that have been tuned up to haul ass!
This is a four part set of videos showing the network broadcast of the 1980 Great American Truck Race from Atlanta International Speedway. It features Ken Squier, Brock Yates, and Hal Needham with a shirt that is apparently missing a whole bunch of buttons.
First you should refresh you memory about the series by reading: The Twisted Tale of the Great American Truck Racing Series
Now on to this kick-ass set of videos!
I noticed they don’t run any front brakes..interesting
I remember watching that race on TV.
