THIS is the good stuff, kids. Filmed at two different rallies in Switzerland, this classic Ford Escort dates from the late 1960s or early 1970s as it is a Mk1 and those were produced between 1968 and 1974. I love these cars and would absolutely kill to have one with the fender flares and full race setup that has been bestowed on this one. The car flat hauls ass and it does so in various conditions ranging from curvy dry pavement to dirt roads and then into the rain and muck. The little Ford keeps charging through all of it and the dude at the wheel has some skills. He drifts some really tight turns perfectly, has the car sideways and out of shape on wet grass, and carries way more speed than we’d dare to try through some very tight portions of these courses.
The funny thing about the video is that although it was shot at two events, they are edited together seamlessly so it appears that the car is racing on an amazing long stage with amazing swings in weather condition. It goes from nice and sunny and ends up looking like it has been raining for a week. The sound of the car matches the looks and the performance, with a small four banger absolutely sreaming its lungs out as the car hurtles through the course.
The Mk1 Escort was a huge success for Ford and by the end of the first generation of their existence the company had sold more than two million of them. It is the best selling car in the history of the UK with more than four million being sold just within the UK over the production history of the Escort name. We’d argue that none of the later generations were nearly as cool as what you’ll see racing across your screen below. This angry little Ford rules and we want one!

Good stuff !! I’d drive the hell out of that !
For a Ford, that’s a really nice looking car. Nice lines on a small car. The wheel and tire combo are killer. The fender flares make it look mean. It has a very Euro sound as it hauls butt on those narrow roads. Fun stuff. But I still think the spectators are putting their lives at risk. Not all those rally drivers are as good as this chap.
Waaay cool vid!!! I’d drive one of those in a minute, put me in Europe with that, one second!!!!!
Cool video. These mk1’s have become really sought after here in the UK with prices to match. 2 door shells to restore can be 2-3K. Nice 2 door base model cars are probably up around 5K and up. Really nice Mexico’s, RS2000’s, and anythting built nice (ie cosworth motor or similar) is going to be in the 15-30K region. If it has any race history, FIA papers etc then probably 50-100K.
Just wish I had bought a load in the early eighties when you couldn’t give them away. Haha nevermind.
