I know I put a ton of Grind Hard Plumbing Co.’s videos up. It’s because every single time they do something, I’m impressed with the craftsmanship that they put into it, the engineering that it takes, and how easy they make it seem to be. It’s not…measure thrice to cut once, welding in detail, lathe work…all of that takes time to learn, time to get right and along the way there’s a lot of scrap metal that is the result of something being just off enough. So, yeah…I’m impressed that they’ve managed to take a Power Wheels kid’s toy and using those dimensions, come up with a radical off-road ATV that’s compact, potent, and doesn’t look like the ultimate death trap. Each one of the builds they crank out gets better and better.
The current surgery victim, the “Col. Senders” Jeep-based build that is packing a KTM powerplant and all wheel drive, was going to be a handful. Ever ridden a four-wheel-drive quad? You have to manhandle those mothers around even when you’re at speed, and you have to be brutal with the steering inputs at low speed. Translate that from wide handlebars to a steering wheel, and you can imagine how much fun it ain’t to wheel this contraption around. That all changes with an electric power steering motor…now the guys will be able to whip the little buggy around with confidence and do a bit of slower crawling if they feel like it.
