Burnout Video: Watch A Crusty Maverick Sleeper Destroy A Set of Slicks

Burnout Video: Watch A Crusty Maverick Sleeper Destroy A Set of Slicks

(Words by Tommy Lee Byrd) – If you’re thinking this car looks familiar, then you might remember us posting a video of it making a sketchy pass on the drag strip a few months back. The owner is Josh Dillon, and the car is his 100 percent home built 1973 Ford Maverick. This thing is all sorts of crazy.

Josh built this car on a super tight budget, so it has lots of stock parts in it and he’s pushing the limits of everything. It’s a stock block, stock crank, stock head 460ci big block Ford with a tiny hydraulic flat tappet cam, but boost more than makes up for this engine’s simple setup. A Borg Warner S475 (75mm) turbo crams a bunch of boost down the big block’s throat, and scares even the toughest car guys when they’re strapped in next to a guy who doesn’t lift until it starts floating the valves or ends up in the opposite lane. The car has run a best of 6.60 at 105 miles per hour in the eighth mile at only 12 pounds of boost on pump gas…and it’s still rocking the stock 8-inch rear end with stock axles. This is the definition of scary fast.

After scaring the pants off of yours truly with a 20-pounds-of-boost, 100-plus-mile-per-hour, tire-spinning, turbo-whistling, hold-on-tight street pull, Josh realized that his slicks were cashed out. And what better way to finish them off than a big burnout in front of his house. We’re sure the neighbors loved it.

If you like turbo sleepers, turn up the volume and enjoy!

HOLY SH*T !!! LOVE IT!!! sounds like a dump truck… and I bet those tracks don’t come up for five years.

Want want want – it’s perfect.

    Some “dump truck!”

I hope the guys who wrote back in 2003 on the Car Craft “So were not rich but we aren’t stupid” thread that “cheap blow-through turbos don’t work” see that video.

How can Dillon keep that 28-spline 8-incher alive behind THAT?

SWEET!!! Does he happen to be on a forum somewhere and have a post that documents the build?
I bet there are a TON of guys interested in how he pulled this off!
