Chad loves my wife, because she’s all about her Chevy truck. It is her baby, it is nothing to be messed with. In fact, most of her family is Chevrolet-loyal. There is a fleet of C/K trucks, Silverados and Tahoes at the ready for when they are needed…and they get put into use quite often. Meanwhile, there’s me, who simply wonders what kind of work can be done with a 3/4 ton truck. Yeah, I’m partial to Ram/Dodge, but there is no harm in looking and I’m not brand-loyal. I’ve liked GM trucks from the 1967 redesign onwards, but lately…not so much. Especially the new HD version. I’m still trying to figure out what, exactly, was going on in that meeting, but when the HD version came out the nearly unanimous result was, “oh, what is that?!”
After seeing it in person, it’s no less jarring, but you have to wonder if maybe there was too much compromise in the study. No doubt that the new HD was meant to be aggressive and square-jawed, but did it have to be so…homely? I thought it, many people thought it, and a friend of The Sketch Monkey thought it too, because he suggested that his friend, the guy we’ve featured before who is great at hindsight redesign, take a crack at helping out Chevy’s truck.
We think he did well, considering he used what was there instead of grabbing a clean sheet of paper and starting over. What do you think?

They took it from the 63-66 truck nose, only this looks worse. If my dog was that ugly i’d shave his ass and teach him to walk backwards. Also, the prices of these things, all of them, it just flat out nuts.
From the Stevie Wonder School of Advanced Design comes another vehicle so ugly it could be used as a visual laxative.
Us car guys need to march to Detroit and lay a beating on the Big 3 for their continued use of let’s look like the other manufacturers approach.
Fail
What’s really funny about this is Chevrolet had a commercial back in the 70’s and the punch line was “don’t buy no ugly truck” using the Dodge as the “ugly”. Things have sure changed!!
All of the above !!! There is not one good looking pickup – And the size wars
are really stupid – not talking capacity etc , just the overall bulk of the things
It started w/ the Ram fake fender/hood on went down hill from there
@ 5’8″ I cannot look into the bed of a modern truck the hell with pick something out of it …And try to see the engine and or work on it
That is one ass ugly truck.
Yeah. They really need to do something with the front of that. I can just imagine the genius that approved that and most other things GM is putting out lately.
Perfect color, puke green!
Just nasty….
Seriously the only way I’d buy a new Silverado is if they re-bodied it as a 73′ squarebody. I really don’t see what’s so hard for designers, they could literally just pull a 67′ C10 into the studio and try to make a faithful as possible rendition. They wouldn’t be able to keep up with production.
