“It’s so easy your mom could do it.” That tagline is a bit cliché, if I must be honest. It’s 2016…and I know plenty of mothers who could run rings around plenty of people when it comes to driving. That being said, there are mothers who tend to not get a full grip on driving. My own mother is one of those people…if I ever need to shut her down in an argument involving cars, I simply remind her of the time she shifted the transmission in my 1977 Impala from drive to reverse at 45 miles an hour when the engine stalled on her. As the transmission made that ungodly “card in spokes” noise, I sat there, just staring at my mother, believing that my transmission was a fine dust on the roadway. But I’ve also seen that woman whip some of the most violent donuts possible in a snotty Chevy truck, so there is always a side you’ll never see coming.
Alex Roy of Carfection might come across as a proper British presenter, but after this video, I can only see him as a wiseass, and rightfully so: he has a Ford Focus RS, some track time at Castle Combe on a rainy day, and an instructor from Ford Racing who understands the car’s abilities and temperament perfectly. And he has his mother, Hillary, with him. Mrs. Goy is in her sixties and isn’t what you would call a “car person”. She isn’t too nervous about the prospect of drifting the RS either…at least, at first. Then Alex develops a wicked little grin and starts slinging the hot hatch around. Any takers on how Mrs. Goy did?
If I tried this with my mother, she’d be beating the ever-loving hell out of my right arm until I stopped the car. Hmm…that would make a cool video…
