Car Chase Movie Sunday: Steven Segal In A Classic Chevy Pickup Versus An Evil Mack!

Steven Segal owned the schlocky action genre for a time in the 1990s and then became a dominant player in the “straight to DVD” market. He’s now a real life law enforcement officer and is taking down bad guys in real life (plus several pounds). In 1997, when he was at the height of his power, Segal starred in the long since forgotten film Fire Down Below.

One of the climactic action scenes in this movie is a truck chase between our hero Segal who is driving a classic 1950s Chevy pickup, and an unknown driver in an old Mack DM800 tractor trailer. Sure, this is a blatant rip off of the famous movie Duel but we’re not really caring. Segal and his classic Chevy take one heck of a beating but hang in there. One of the things that cracked us up about this one is just how quickly the chase transitions from a cornfield to a strip mine. Who knew there was a place where these two things were so close together!

PRESS PLAY TO SEE A MACK AND A CLASSIC CHEVY GET AFTER IT IN A HIGH SPEED CHASE FROM THE 1997 (NOT SO CLASSIC) FILM – FIRE DOWN BELOW!

I wouldn’t know where to begin with whats wrong technically with this clip, but I’ll start with I’d like to meet the person who can shift a Mack transmission that quickly.
Brian, lots of places where farmland is next to strip mines. At least in Illinois there is.
Still, a classic scene, one of my favorites from a very corny movie. Says Segal “You cracked my wood. That’s no good” after beating a guy over the head with it.

I’m glad that at least the classic Chevy truck got dented and smashed up, unlike lots of chase scenes where the cars sustain no damage,
Segal movies were such cheesy fun regardless of the plot and acting.

A expensive “rip off” of Denis Weaver’s “Duel” (1971).Too bad they destroyed a nice 3100, Weaver saved his Plymouth Valiant.

All the sounds of a Detroit, then when the truck goes off of the cliff, AMAZING!!, its a Mack engine. Also, watch the right side headlight and aux light. now you see them, now you dont!
