Civil War: Street Machine Takes On The Ford vs. Holden Argument With Two 1990s Beaters!

Civil War: Street Machine Takes On The Ford vs. Holden Argument With Two 1990s Beaters!

In the States, it’s Ford vs. Chevrolet. Camaro vs. Mustang. Crown Victoria P71 vs. Caprice 9C1. F-series vs. Silverado. And the lines run deep…when you read stories about people getting shot at parties due to arguments over which is better, you’d better believe that brand loyalty exists. Australia knows the struggle: down there, it’s Holden vs. Ford, and it’s just as much of a thing, if not more so. Bathurst has been referred to as a Holden vs. Ford fan fight that has some racing going on in the background, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg of what we’ve seen from our corner of the world.

Scotty from Street Machine recently managed to score himself a nice garage and all of the goodies that a decent shop needs to function. To celebrate, he went and bought two 1990s era rides that would make for great cheap fun: a Holden Calais and a Ford Falcon XR6. The Holden is packing the final form of the Holden 5.0L V8 while the XR6 is packing 4.0L of turbocharged straight-six power. Both cars were bought for a relative song, both cars are well-worn, and both cars are going to be put through head-to-head challenges. The first round? Drag racing, of course! We’ll ignore the impromptu “tuning” that Scotty did to the Falcon and say that round 1’s win is legit in our books…you don’t hit the strip without tweaking something beforehand, right?

The XR6 is not a turbo. It’s an AU model, naturally aspirated 4.0 SOHC with VCT, predecessor to the Barra DOHC. Still enough to spank the 5 litre though…
