This is sweet footage from the Ford Archives. Called the Gems Rally Legends, this is a clip from a DVD made from three different films from the 1960’s-early 1970’s that shows the cars in action and has the drivers explaining what is going on as they blast along a special stage route. Timo Mäkinen drives the Mini with sheer abandon, showing how he earned his spot as one of the original “Flying Finn” rally drivers. The second driver (Readers, a little help, please?) picks up in a classic Escort and proceeds to hang the tail out in fine fashion, engine screaming the entire way. These guys aren’t taking it easy, but instead are giving a class on how to manhandle these cars around a course at full speed.
