Classic YouTube: Motorcycle Ice Racing At Potter Lake

Riding my three-wheelers in the snow was one thing…that was a good time all-around. Riding my dirt bikes in the snow? Yeah…no. The smaller 50cc and 70cc bikes were fine enough, and I’m pretty sure that if I ever rode the Honda Fat Cat in the snow, it would have been a ball. But from the Yamaha YZ-80 on up, playing in the powder seemed like a surefire way to find a pain that would take my mind off of that deep-seated damp cold ache that a snow day in the Pacific Northwest would easily provide. Watching videos from Northern states, Canada, anywhere where snow and ice are promised, usually leaves me impressed with those who can endure that frigid stuff…and grateful that I am not there.

Take a look back in the day from Potter Lake, near Davidson, Michigan. Full drifting, just the basic warm clothes, on an iced lake. Some insurance folks would freak out watching this, seeing a guaranteed medical claim on the way. The only downside to this in my eyes would be the pure cold…after that, why turn down the chance to show a drift driver how much more insane the art can be with two wheels missing?
