“Let’s Make A Deal” was a strange game show for someone who wasn’t alive when it was taped. Effectively, near as I can make sense, the premise was to dress up in the most unconventional stuff you could possibly find to gain the attention of host Monty Hall, who would then spend the next few minutes screwing with you over prizes. That explains why the woman who was chosen in this video is dressed up as a dragon fruit…I think, and why she appears to be fairly nervous as Monty informs her that she’s in line to win the latest and greatest sports car in the world…a Bricklin SV-1! Yes, the Bricklin, painted in Safety Orange with it’s freshly laminated panels nowhere near ready to start coming apart yet, powered by an AMC 360/TorqueFlite combo(the Ford-powered cars didn’t appear until 1975) and sitting pretty on it’s turbines and BFGoodrich T/As, was the prize IF, she was able to sort out whatever in the hell was on the table that was carried over by a man I believe is Jay Stewart, the show’s announcer.
Did she win? The clip cuts before we get to find out…and before the assistant beats Monty over the head with something off of the table for the fat joke.
