Cool Video: A Guy Tests Out His Homebuilt Quarter-Scale Jet Dragster!

Cool Video: A Guy Tests Out His Homebuilt Quarter-Scale Jet Dragster!

We’ve seen lots of neat miniature race cars, engines, and tractors in our day, but we’ve never seen a freakin’ home made jet dragster! This thing rules all and is even capable of shooting major league fire and doing burner pops. The builder says that he’s got about $10,000 wrapped up in the whole thing.

The engine is apparently intended for use in large model airplanes, but in true hotrodding fashion, the builder placed it in a custom built dragster chassis, just like the real life jet racers do. Not knowing much about mini-turbines, we’re wondering if the afterburner was part of the original engine or if it was added on by the builder after the fact. Either way, the little burner pops and fire show is cool as hell.

Although this “run” takes place across a basketball court, the builder says that he’s run the car down a strip, recording a “146” mph pass. We’re not sure if that is scale or actual miles per hour!

Press play below to see an insanely cool miniature project!

At 1/4 scale 146mph would be 36.5mph… crappy out-of-the-box RC cars can run that fast. I’m sure that 146mph is *NOT* a scaled number unless we’re talking a 75 foot drag run. (scale 1/4 mile would be 330 feet)

PFFFT! I’ve run nearly 115 actual MPH on a 1/24 scale 1/4 mike drag strip(55 feet) with AA/FC slot car…;)

Sorry, but I’m not into the rat rod stuff. A rod in primer is one thing. Throwing a pile of dogsh*t together and calling it a hot rod is something different. Also, I don’t need to pay for something I really don’t want to read. Yes, I read more than the captions.
Last issue I got there was a cool article on Linda but oher than that I haven’t been that impressed with the magazine in the past year.
As for Car Crap and (un)Popular Hot Rodding, I haven’t seen an issue of them in about 7 years, let alone buy one. They are a far cry of what they once were in the ’60’s and ’70’s.
I get Drag Racer, Drag Racing Action ,and Area Auto Racing News by subscription. The rest, including National Dragster, I dropped. They only end up in the recycling can anyway. Christ, if I saved every issue of every car rag that came out, my house would look like one of those places on that “Hoarders” show. Grin
If I see an issue with alot of cool stuff on the stands I’ll buy it. I just am not into all the stuff they do.
I will definitely check out this new magazine and if it is good I will buy it. And not R/C llustrated, when will you get it, it sucks.

Just a comment regarding a post on here from `voice of reason’ – I’ve seen the same rant on a few banshift articles/video’s now – not sure what this guys problem is other than he don’t like rat rods, or car magazines, or pretty well anything else by the looks. If you’re reading this, fine, we get you don’t like rat rods – however maybe have a bit of respect for what others are into, eh? I notice this kind of post on youtube as well, yet when you have a look at the poster’s site, they invariably don’t actually seem to own a car….
