You may know the name Jason Lewis. He worked for the guys at Hot Rod for a time, doing their video stuff. He’s also the guy behind the bad ass big rig gymkhana video that stormed around the web a while back. Jason is a hardcore gear head with several cars and projects of his own. Our favorite is his Maverick, which he’s built from the ground up and managed to shoehorn in a Viper V10 into the front of.
The build is on-going but the car is going to be one bad Jose when it is complete. Jason built his own four link out back and used a Chris Alston Chassisworks front clip. The car sits perfectly, wears some big but not stupid big rolling stock, and looks all the world like it will carve corners and sprint like its hair is on fire once the car is done.
Press play below and take the full tour of a great car. Dare to be different!
I like it. I like it a lot. He has a good vision of where this car is going. Good call on keeping the body looking stock.
Great car, great build and he’s a great guy. I met Jason online a few years back when we were building the Spectre 2JZ Maverick, he was just beginning this build. Can’t wait to see it finished.
Nice car . looks like our australian falcon two door coupe fantastic to see that your doing what you want and not the normal, like worrying about shit like the wiper motor. look at the car he can sort the wiper motor no problem,
Speechless! This should be fun to follow!
Cool, plain and simple. The only change I would have made was for a Blue Oval V10. Good Luck with her Jason
Ha. Who needs wipers when it only rains forty days a year in LA. Those of us who live within ten miles of the beach get nice cool air, so AC is not necessary.
Killer build. Love them lightweight Mavs.
I really really like the car. The fab work looks killer, and it has my favorite wheels on it.
REAL street cars have at least a heater/defroster and wipers.
And in most of the country, a HVAC makes the car much more pleasant and practical with a minimal weight penalty. (I base this opinion on having driven (and nearly wrecked) “street” cars without defrosters or wipers. Never again!)
HVAC and wipers hardly make that “short” a “Mercedes.” Even GEO Metros had HVAC and wipers.
Damn Speedy, if you’re building (or built) something better and more useable than a viper powered Maverick, send it to Brian so he can do a blog on it!! I truely would love to see it!! I love all things fast and daily driven!
My car doesn’t have heat, sure the wipers work, but didn’t until last year. I consider it a street car, it certainly ain’t a race car running 14s. Is it my DD? At 5 mpg, hell no. Do I drive it often? Yes, just not in the snow, as that would be kinda scary. As for defrost on a cool night or early morning, opening the window works great.
V-10 engines sound like crap.
I had one of those too! In 1973, it was my very first car. It had a straight 6 with a C-4 tranny. I think you are a major gear head…love it, can’t wait to see and hear the finished product, very, very cool.
i would like to know do you need a rolecage like the ford maverick when you put a viper engine any 1972car to hot rod because i have one and i plan on putting it in my 1972 chevelle but i want to have a rear seat in the back i hope you can answer my question thank you.
