Dark Blue: A Father And Son Story Rooted By A 1978 Ferrari 308 GTB

Dark Blue: A Father And Son Story Rooted By A 1978 Ferrari 308 GTB

It’s not normal for me to pay attention to a Ferrari. They’re above my position in life, always have been, always will be. I’m also pretty certain that no pasta rocket of any kind isn’t going to haul my all-American ass around comfortably. But there is no denying that with the assistance of Pininfarina, that Ferrari has put out some beautiful designs. Don’t think back to some cheesy television show or bad music video, it’s not worth it. Instead, note the subtle wheel flares, the haunched hips, the greenhouse that provides excellent views forward and laterally. Take in the air intake cove and the original Ferrari hallmark taillights, with the amber turn/reverse light outboard, two large round circles that couldn’t be mistaken for anything else.

The first time I saw one of these in person, was in 2011. No joke, that was the first time I saw a 308 GTB…and it was ragged out. I genuinely thought it was a Fiero until I heard the driver, a kid no more than 20 years old, lay into the throttle and heard unmistakable Ferrari noises come out. This thing was battered, belching oily smoke from the pipes. It was in desperate need of care. Care is what keeps an old car looking new. Care is what keeps them running. That’s part of why this Petrolicious video strikes home…this father and son pair care about this car deeply.

Just to bad most ferrari’s sound like a box of nuts and bolts Being shaken around. My neighbors son i law has a late model Ferrari something, and it sounds just awful when he gets on it. Of course the ass thinks he needs to rev that sucker constanly making it sound even worse. No Ferrari or other Italian crapcan ever comes close to the sound of a american made V8.

Unless the american V8 is the bog standard, low comp, low output variety with a exhaust sound mimicking a fishing boat. Unfortunately a lot of the cars where I live are like this. And yeah… the owners, of course, think they own race cars.

A Ferrari Daytona V12 on the track makes fantastic music and you’ll have to do a lot of cool stuff to an american V8 to match it (but it can be done).
