I didn’t realize that it’s been three years since I’ve seen the 2017 Placecraft jet boat known as “Game Over” on the floor at SEMA. Quite literally the jewel at the Holley booth, Mike Finnegan’s twin-turbo Sonny Leonard-powered monster of a wakemaker was the talk of the town. The engine looked mighty, the paint was absolute perfection under the lights, and then…silence. The boat has sat in the garage ever since then, uncompleted. In Mike’s own words, he had a “Bluetooth throttle” and “Bluetooth driveshaft”, among other small finishing touches that are keeping 711 cubic inches of “hey, do you want to waterski?” out of the water and on the trailer.
After nearly three years of nothing, it appears that Mike is going to get cracking on getting “Game Over” out onto the water this year. His goal is to tow the jet boat to his favorite body of water with the 1967 Chevy he’s building, and that image will be badass…once completed. The Chevy has a lot of work before it’s tow vehicle worthy, and with no throttle or driveshaft, the boat isn’t doing much either. So, follow along as the tools come out and the to-do list gets trimmed down. Any bets on whether or not he makes it to the lake before the end of summer?
