Dirt Every Day Gets Ambitious: Cummins-Swap A TJ Wrangler, Then Drive It Underwater!

Dirt Every Day Gets Ambitious: Cummins-Swap A TJ Wrangler, Then Drive It Underwater!

We have to give credit to Fred and crew for creativity…not that driving underwater is a new thing (it isn’t, the military was doing that decades ago) but simply because it’s something new. He could slap on some huge tires and go wheeling anywhere he likes and film it, but to take a project Jeep (in this case, a 1997 Jeep Wrangler affectionately known as TubeSock), slap in a 2.8L Cummins four and running gear that can hold up to the engine, and proceed to take it and sink it in the bottom of a local pond…that takes serious stones. Normally, the vehicle isn’t supposed to go underwater. Hell, just letting an engine run with the possibility of water getting down the intake is a bad idea. Hydrolocking is very real, and so are bent connecting rods that occur when the piston attempts to compress any quality of H20, never mind what is living in that sketchy “pond” that Fred picked out. The TJ is pretty badass with the Cummins swap on it’s own and California has plenty of good wheeling opportunity, so why drive underwater? Why not? Here’s hoping they have all of their bases covered…

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

A strange coincidence – I’ve just built a submarine with wheels and I am going to attempt to drive it on the freeway…..

  2. Beagle

Queue the Bud Light American Hero music… Here’s to you Mr. Drive Your Jeep Under Water Man!

There’s a fine line between lunacy and goofiness. Should be a neat setup when he gets it all cleaned up and starts using it in a little less goofy fashion. Applause for the efforts!

  3. crazy canuck
