As we were watching the awesome Norwegian hill climb video yesterday, we got to thinking about what transmissions and transfer cases these dudes were running. Well, believe it or not, some of them are running virtually stock transfer cases, and not shockingly, they are not too excited about getting hammered with far more than stock horsepower, as this dyno video will show.
The buggy on the dyno has an LS3 engine, which is brand new to the operation according to the brief description of the video. The machine is strapped down the rollers and all appears to be going along well. The dyno operator decides to feed the beast and he lays the skinny pedal all the way down to the floor. Pay close attention to the tires as you can watch them grow as the speed increases and the centrifugal forces increase as well.
The transfer case or bomb as it ends up being in this video was sourced from an International Harvester Scout. On the best day of a Scout’s life it was making about 200hp with the “big motor”. While plenty sturdy for that, it simply could not handle the LS3 and goes out in a blaze of shrapnel filled glory.
God has her own way of thinning out the herd!
