Fuego Video: Little Car, Big Flames

Fuego Video: Little Car, Big Flames

After getting all nostalgic for LACR we decided to go hunting for some cool video action from the track. Unfortunately we only got as far as the staging lanes. This video shows a cool old Lloyd that has apparently been modified for drag racing. Actually it appears to have been modified for use by the local fire department to demonstrate the dangers of car fires. This is a bad one.

Believe it or not there were two old car companies named Lloyd. One was an English outfit that made tiny, strange cars and folded up after producing a very small number of cars. The other is a German company that made tiny, strange cars but stayed in business for many years. Lots of those cars were built as a brand owned by Borgward.

We think the car that burns like an oil rig in the video is a mid-50s Lloyd LP400, which out of the factory was capable of toupee lifting 47  mph and sported a 13hp, two cylinder, two-stroke engine. Ironically, after the incident in this video, the 13hp model would handily outrun the flaming hot rod.
