When we see the phrase 7,800 RPM Launch in the title of a video, you know that we’re going to run it! This is in-car footage of a stout third generation Camaro that is equipped with a 6.0L LS engine, a T56 transmission, and a set of nice looking Auto Meter gauges. It is also equipped with enough power to run 10.87 through the top end lights at the drags. We’re guessing that this is a street car as well as a drag strip warrior as it looks to have a virtually full interior. One thing we cannot see are down bars for a roll bar or cage but that could be the camera angle, too. The car sounds sweet, especially when it comes up to nearly 8,000 RPM before the driver drops the clutch and hammers the driveline with everything that the motor has to give.
The dude does use the clutch to shift and he is taking his foot off the floor when making gear changes, but we’re not holding that against him. If this IS a street car that needs to perform outside of the strip, we understand the need to keep the engine and transmission alive to fight another day (or ferry the driver to the office). Undoubtedly the myriad of internet Ronnie Sox imitators will be up this dude’s keister but we’re also fairly certain that the majority of them are hammering gears in a Corolla or something.
Apparently the plan was not to launch the car at nearly 8,000 RPM. The poster of the video mentions in the comments that the button on the steering wheel should operate the line lock and the two step but you can tell from the audio on the clip that the two-step did not show up for work on this lap. The motor smoothly revs to 7,800 and the driver gets after it like it was all part of the plan. That’s called rolling with the punches in our book!
