We watched this video and immediately wanted a dirt road, an ancient race car, and plenty of opposite lock steering input. Alec Lif is the owner, builder, and driver of the race car you’ll see in this video. It is a modified 1928 Ford built in the old school “speedster” style of the era. That means open wheels, seating for two and a “boat-ish” tail. It sits on what looks to be a stock frame (from our research), runs on wire wheels with studded narrow tires, and the absolutely bad ass part of this car is an incredible overhead valve conversion on the flathead four banger the likes of which we have never seen. This little car sounds like a freaking rally machine and you can see a photo of the engine below from the Facebook page for the car. Does anyone out there have any info on this OHV conversion? We know that there were lots of them back in the day but holy smokes, this sure looks like the topper of all time.
As you will see in the video, Lif does not spare the rod on this car. He’s getting after it all the way from the start to the finish and the car spends most of the time spinning the tires, throwing gravel, and pitching sideways as he fights for control up the hill. It must weight slightly less than nothing, so the engine may not be all that powerful but it does make enough suds to shove this little 1928 speedsters along at an alarming pace. We should tell you that this video and the car are located in Sweden, where all kinds of cool hill climb events happen on roads like this, in large gravel pit type places, and anywhere else racers can find to run their stuff at full throttle up a winding course.
The car, the sounds it makes, and the awesome engine combine to make this a super entertaining video. We want to drive this speedster in anger!
