Historic Drag Racing Video: NY National Drag Strip Action Circa 1969 – 4 Wide, Jungle Jim and More!

In the realm of old school drag racing videos this footage from the summer of ’69 at the now dead NY National Drag Strip on Long Island is in the top 1%. The video itself is crisp and clear which makes it great to watch, it is set to a score of classical music which may sound weird, but it actually works great, and the star power in terms of both people and cars is nearly unmatched.

Jungle Jim’s Nova (was Jim or Clare Sanders driving?), Chris Karamesines, the Ramchargers top fuel car, both Seaton’s Shakers Floppers, four wide stock eliminator racing, muscle cars galore, stands packed with people, it is like the freaking happy hunting ground of drag racing.

While there’s lots of cool stuff in this video, the footage featuring the Funny Cars is best in our book. It is easy to see why Nostalgia Fuel Funny Cars have become the hottest scene in drag racing after you watch this film and realize that every kid in the stands one day dreamed of driving the cars they saw cackling before them. Those kids are the guys neck deep into today’s old school flopper frenzy.

We’re going to start devoting a lot more of our resources toward developing a time machine so we can go back to the day this video was shot. Perfect weather, epic field of cars, total perfection.

A huge thanks to Tim Lopata for getting this amazing video transfered to digital and posted onto YouTube. To share this type of drag racing history with the world is truly awesome!
