Historic Drag Video: Bitchin’ Vintage Footage of Fuel Altereds in Action, Including the Winged Express

Fuel Altereds rule, plain and simple. Not nearly enough wheelbase, chassis, or suspension, combined with way too much motor, gave fans a great show, drivers a lot of work, and chassis builders a lot of business. They’re really engine stands with bodies mounted to them and back in the late 1960s they were the most popular attraction across the country at strips.

This video rules all due to the fact that it is authentic period footage and includes racing action from Indy in what we believe is 1968/1969. AA/FAs ran in their own class until 1970 when they were kicked into Competition Eliminator and assumed a primary role of match racing.

Pay attention to a wheel stand at half track by Pure Hell, Willie Borsch getting the Winged Express up on one wheel, and the War Wagon launching down the strip like a rocket.

This is awesome stuff.
