Historic Drag Video: Gassers at Indy in the Late 1960’s

After finding the killer gasser-style truck this morning we decided to go on a YouTube trolling mission for good vintage gasser footage. We found some neat stuff that was shot at Indy during the US Nationals. The coolest thing about the video is the fact that many significant gassers of the era make appearances.

Among the cast of thousands are the blue Willys of Barb Hamilton (the first woman to hold an NHRA competition license for a supercharged car), The Dogcatcher panel truck, the Ohio George Montgomery Mustang that started a shift to late model bodies and eventually caused the demise of the class, and what looks to be Jim Oddy’s Austin at the very start of the film.

The gasser wars, spurred on by the awesome advertising copy from camshaft companies, swept the nation in the early to mid-1960s creating lasting names and images that are still very celebrated today. Watching this video will show you why.
