Here’s how this story goes: I occasionally make fun of Brian’s addiction to all things involving large truck. He just nods and smiles. I take it a step further and call him out over the GMC Astro find (which you can see here). The afternoon that story went live, I got an email from Lohnes, offering up story ideas in case I get writer’s block. He does this from time to time to help me out, especially since I’m new to this game and he gets tons of story tips a day, and it gives me cool stuff to paw through.
Let’s just leave it at this: I’m sorry, boss. I’ll keep my comments to myself. It was like getting the final warning from a Mafia Don. He’s subtle, but the message came through loud and clear.
Here we have the historical crash test footage for the new-for-1981 Chrysler Imperial. Both front and rear impacts. I will say this: I looked at the Dodge Mirada test footage as well…and the difference a couple of gauges of steel makes is huge. I am actually impressed with the Imperial’s rear-end test, as it looks like it did well for the early 1980s.
Watch and cringe. Thanks to CrashNet1 on YouTube for posting up historical crash-test footage!
In driver’s ed, they showed us all kinds of scary, gory movies mostly made by the Ohio State Police. One of them showed a ’73 Impala sedan in an offset head on with an AMC Hornet. I thought the Hornet would do better, but the hood came off, went through the windshield, and beheaded the both the crash test dummies. But, only after the two posted head rest was ejected from the seat and speared the passenger dummy in the side of the skull.
