Influence and Impact Episode 23 – The History Of Epic and Cliche Car Chase Movies, And Behind the Scenes of Stunt Cars Past And Present

America’s love of the automobile, and the infatuation with the iconic styling and performance American cars have historically embodied has never been more prevalent than in the movies of the 1960s to the 1980s. With epic car chases, crashes, jumps, and even cars and trucks in starring roles, Hollywood absolutely embraced cars as part of the cast of characters.  And to this day, even after a bit of a lull, car related movies thrive. One of the biggest franchises in movie history, the Fast and Furious movies, revolve around cars in every scene. But what makes these movies tick is the people and equipment that are being filmed. The ultimate showcasing of cars in the movies, is an epic car chase. Since the early days of Hollywood, a climatic chase sequence can set a movie a part or add some CGI cliche cheesiness.

Recently, the chase towards realism has advanced thanks to newer technology and innovations from stunt coordinators.
