Chances are, if you’re a BangShift reader, you know Bobby Lagana and the multi-generational nitro racing Lagana family. One of the most compelling racing teams running Top Fuel today, they operate out of a fifth wheel trailer, make more with less than anyone else on the tour, and this year landed a sponsor deal with Tire Kingdom/Service Central that will find them on the full IHRA tour and a select number of NHRA events. How bitchin’ are these guys? Bobby was servicing his own blower when we interviewed him!

There was a time when literally every run these guys made was a miracle of some sort. Those days are long behind them and their hard knock experience has hardened them into a team that can run as hard to 1,000ft as anyone else out there. Bobby Sr. is a living legend, having run his series of “Twilight Zone” dragsters and funnies for decades before handing over the wheell to Bobby Jr. The education was quick and painful. A wreck early in his career cost Bobby fingers and chunks of his hands, but still he soldiered on, undaunted.

Bobby’s brother Dom, the crew chief on the car has also taken to the seat a time or two. The brothers became the first pair of siblings to run 300mph side by side during a match race at New England Dragway two summers ago. It was a moment that Bobby reflects on in this interview.
