The car is “GEMWAR”, a Holden Gemini that is everything that you would expect an Aussie burnout car to be: Flashy, loud and when the gas pedal is matted, exceptionally violent. Built by Jay Bloss, the LS-powered beast has been a staple in burnout contests around Australia, tail-whipping itself around while blanketing the area in clouds of vaporized rubber. But at Gazzanats, GEMWAR’s burnout was a little too hardcore, because something is believed to have punctured a fuel line, leading up to a fuel cell explosion in the car. Bloss and his passenger were unhurt, and other than a light scorching and what will end up being a lot of cleaning and detailing to deal with the fire retardant, they weren’t any worse for the wear…the Gemini even drove off of the skidpad! Australian burnout contests might be juvenile to some, but these guys take their craft…and their cars…seriously and go to great lengths to make sure that they walk away from whatever happens during the heat of the moment!
