Ken Block is back with the sixth release in the famed Gymkhana franchise and this one again reaffirms that Block is one heck of a wheel man. Driving the sweet ever-loving wee out of his Ford Focus World Rallycross Car, Block slides, skids, and smokes his tires through and around one of the neatest obstacle courses we have ever seen assembled for a car. We’re talking spiked wrecking balls, Lamborghini “cop cars”, shipping containers, construction equipment, jump, and more.
While the last installment of Gymkhana may have been more grandiose, shutting down sections of San Francisco, this one takes us back to the roots of the Gymkhana film craze with a good old fashioned obstacle course and tight quarters. We thoroughly enjoyed this study in tire smoke and car control. The most impressive section for us is when Block blows repeated donuts around a spiked wrecking ball while said ball “leads” him around a left hand corner. The compound nature of spinning around the ball and also making the corner blew us away. It is genius level stuff.
People like to bag on Block because he isn’t a guy who wins a lot of traditional races, but seriously, think you could do a better job of driving his car around a course like this? We didn’t think so.
