Kiss The Rings: Inside Audi’s Automotive Vault (Where The Good Stuff Is!)

Kiss The Rings: Inside Audi’s Automotive Vault (Where The Good Stuff Is!)

You know that every manufacturer keeps a small horde of cars they do not want to let go for various reasons. Think about the cars that GM was forced to sell off as part of the 2008 restructuring process, or the cars that Chrysler kept in the museum before it closed. Imagine the machines that Ferrari refuses to let anyone outside of the company touch, or the cars that Ford has socked away just because. The possibilities are endless…and downright tasty. Just think about it…imagine being led to an area where all of the 1966 Ford GT40 race cars were parked, next to each other, as they finished the race. I wouldn’t have words. I’d just be in awe that somehow, being in the presence of those three machines wasn’t getting me arrested.

So it’s not Ford, but it’s Audi today. And instead of myself, it’s Brian Scotto from Hoonigan along with two partners-in-crime. But the theme is still the same: this isn’t Audi’s museum, it’s their treasure vault. This is where the Group B cars that gave everybody else nightmares live, along with the Trans Am sedan, the touring cars, and even the Ur-Quattro that was treated like a company car. There’s pre-Audi machinery here from Auto Union, bikes from DKW, and more. Scotto is an Audi freak whose Coupe Quattro project is one step past self-flagellation on the punishment scale. Apparently the folks at Audi have taken pity on him and have shown him the heavenly side of the equation!
