Low Flying Objects Ahead: Dodging A Car Hood On The Interstate Will Wake You Up!

Didn’t we just talk about this not too long ago? It’s bad enough when things bounce out of a pickup truck or off of a trailer and into traffic. But what was captured on a dashcam recently is even worse. Take note of the dark-colored 1990s-era Toyota Camry hauling tail up the left lane. It looks like pretty much every other Camry of that era you’ve seen, but with one very noticeable issue: the hood is not completely closed. Nothing will liven up a morning commute down a Wisconsin highway quite like the moment the hood gets that one good gust of wind underneath it, rips clean from the bolts holding it in place and becomes an out-of-control projectile for oncoming traffic to avoid. Can you imagine being in the car with the dashcam, seeing a loose hood flying towards you at highway speeds? That’s a Code Brown moment if we’ve ever seen one, period. And to our amazement, it takes more than a couple of seconds for the Camry driver to realize or accept that the hood has made a grand escape before finally pulling off onto the side of the road.

Be careful out there, folks.

LANGUAGE WARNING: Mind the young ears, might want to find headphones if at work.

When I was just a dumb kid, we used to go tobogganing using the hood from a 66 Polara as the sled. I’m amazed we didn’t kill ourselves.

Had the hood of my long-gone ’72 F100 do just that many moons ago. Heard loud screeching behind me, when I stopped I found a young mom with very white knuckles stopped in someone’s front tree lawn. Fortunately she just missed getting hit by my truck’s hood.
