The Germans, outside of their love for David Hasselhoff have a large amounts of national pride in the fact that they are the best parallel parkers in the world. That pride was challenged some months ago when a stunt driver in a Mini set the Guinness World Record for the tightest parallel park job. Not fit to play second fiddle to any nation in this category, the Germans trained hard and driver Ronny Wechselberger, holder of the most German name in the universe was nominated to pilot a tiny VW in the hopes of recapturing the record and he did so without breaking a sweat.
What’s actually impressive about this is the fact that the space is only 14 centimeters longer than the car he’s trying to “park”. Due to the narrow margin, Weshselberger (you love saying it, too) has to drive at the spot and emergency brake slide the thing in. It is really, really, neat to watch because the margin of error is zilch and he pulls it off. At one point you can see the pavement has several skids in it where practice runs or earlier attempts were made.
We’re looking for a car company to send along a couple of vehicles to BS Eastern World HQ so we can try this. We’re sure by the 50th or 75th time we’ll get it…or we’ll have smashed the other cars to bits. Either way, we want to try!
Press play below to see some seriously cool precision driving!
I want to see him drive out!
and yes that cool
I think Ken Block should try out for 13cm, if someone can do it I think it’s him.
I want to see him do it with a Cadillac Coupe Deville, then get out of the parking space.
Should that really count since his front tire hit the white line. Had that been a real curb he probably would have bounced and hit one of the cars.
I know I’m being picky, but if it’s official. Just like sports if you touch the out of bounds line, your out. 🙂
