We were tipped off to this video by BangShift reader Jack Stetson that shows a 2012 Cobra Jet Mustang factory drag car crashing hard at Cecil County Dragway in Maryland. The car launches hard and goes directly into a bumper scraping power wheelie. The thing gets high enough that it totally dragged the bumper. Crappily, the car is moving to the left the whole time that it is in the air. When it lands, the driver tries to correct and steer it back into the center of his lane, but the left two tires are in the middle of the track where the “marbles” are and that attempted correction sends the car pinwheeling into the wall and ultimately across the track where the rear of the CJ takes some impact. By the looks of the tires on this car, it is a setup for stock eliminator. Is it a 5.0 Coyote engine making the power? We’re not sure.
Hopefully the car was not damaged structurally and the body can be put back right. Being a factory drag car, at least panels are available over the counter at the local Ford dealer. It sucks to see one of the cool cars wrecked, but it at least serves as a reminder than the vast majority of the Cobra Jets sold are out there pounding down drag strips across the country. Just going by the numbers, crashes are an inevitable part of the game.
Hit the link below and watch a Cobra Jet carry the front tires like a boss and then meet the wall…hard!
Oh bad. did the guy who was driving survive or not? I don’t like such stunts in which there is always a risk for life. I don’t even like guys wheeling around and crashing cars here and there.
