Morning Symphony: Putting The “Muscle” Back Into Muscle Car With This AMC Javelin Puller!

Morning Symphony: Putting The “Muscle” Back Into Muscle Car With This AMC Javelin Puller!

Muscle car. The name lends itself nicely to the ear and invokes images that many look back on in wistful nostalgia. Cars that were so hairy, so loaded with power that you had to have bravado by the boatload to even dream of driving composed any and every dream that involved any of the high-power machines that GM, Ford, Chrysler and American Motors cranked out. Nobody wanted to be the second-place guy in any category. Not in looks, not in actual racing, and certainly not on the streets, where reputation mattered. But “muscle cars”? Really, that’s the name that stuck?

It’s not that there wasn’t power or that performance was lacking in any regard. Some of the measurements from the top of the top tier can still hold a candle in today’s market, just not as fairly as they used to. But muscle cars were really only built for straight line speed, nothing more. You could coax a couple to handle corners if you really put your mind to it. But hooking up to a sled and dragging it down a dirt path? Ok, we’re off on a tangent. Not one single musclecar was built to do that. Most of the trucks that run in sled pulls weren’t designed to do that. But here we have a later model AMC Javelin hooked up, and the coke-bottle Jav has plenty of what it takes to haul it’s load around with pure impudence. Forget 330 feet, this one took the sled all the way to the fenceline!
