A veteran helicopter pilot with two decades of experience escaped death in New Zealand yesterday when the chopper he was flying crashed in dramatic fashion while he was working to place a Christmas tree on the city of Auckland’s water front. The rotor appears to strike some cables or support wires and then completely comes apart with the pilot still on board.
You can see the guy get flung around like a rag doll inside the cockpit and at one point, right after everything goes to crap, he appears to be almost totally outside of the helicopter before heading back inside for the rest of the duration of the crash.
You can see him being led away on his own two feet at the end of this video. This is insane, especially the fact that the guy lived and sustained no serious injuries to speak of.
