While we may not have invented the burnout here in America, we certainly perfected it. As you’ll see in this video, tire smoke is an international gearhead language. What makes this scene cool is that the car is a veritable fish out of water in front of a foreign crowd. Their wild applause at the conclusion of this smoke show only confirms that all of us gearheads are on the same wave length worldwide.
To set the scene, we have the 2011 “Rally Show” being held at Italy’s legendary Monza race track. This is a venue that has been holding high profile auto races since autoracing really existed. Max Papis was there in his Toyota NASCAR machine and Papis was kind of a side act, appearing between stages of the rally the fans came to watch. Unfortunately for the, Papis decided to steal the show with a good old ‘Merican smoke show.
Watch him dice through the rally obstacles and then spend about a minute up on the rev limiter, blazing the tires and spinning donuts in front of the slack jawed Italian fans. Papis was obviously well received, judging by the closing reactions of the crowd.
Screaming V8 burnouts rule!
