One Way Or Another: Watch As This Quadriplegic Takes On Elimination Hill At Gravelrama 48!

(Photo: Jeff Tomlin) In the last gallery from Gravelrama 48, I said that I didn’t spend nearly enough time on-site for my liking…and that’s the truth. I only scheduled in one day, and that was from the moment I woke up before dawn to drive up to Cleves to the moment I pulled in the driveway after everything was said and done. I didn’t know what to expect and went in kind of blind. I know I missed a bit of the action, but one thing I didn’t know about at all and didn’t learn anything about until well after I started pushing galleries for you to enjoy was the story of Ben Steele and his accomplishment of scrambling up Elimination Hill. You see, anyone that can crest the top of the five-story hill has bragging rights, but for Steele, it’s a genuine accomplishment…because he’s been paralyzed with limited upper-body movement for thirteen years. Driving with hand controls and with an assistant on-board of his square-body Chevrolet, Steele has every reason in the world to celebrate making the climb and making it off the hill after missing that strange slight left kink up at the top. There are folks who’d quit driving normally altogether if they were in half of the situation that he’s in…to take controls of a racing truck with such a limitation on body control is beyond words. I’m genuinely sorry that I missed seeing this.

Glad to see that technology is at a point where everyone can do what they want to do, regardless of physical limitations.
